Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Alva Street, Edinburgh.

The post holder will be an experienced medical practitioner who will provide care to patients with a range of drug and alcohol problems. He/she will have a special interest in the psychological, physical and social problems of this group.

The post holder will have the skills and knowledge to develop effective communications and working links with the other addiction services in Lothian, Primary Care Teams and Mental Health Services, as well as a wide range of statutory and voluntary agencies.

The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team. His/her responsibilities will include the following:

•         Medical assessment
•         Advice on management.
•         Initiate and continue treatment for those clients assessed by the team.
•         Supervision of the prescribing programme and formal review of patients.
•         Seamless transition and communication with colleagues for clients between services as required. 
•         Participation in audit and quality improvement activities
•         Cross cover with other Lothian based Specialty Doctors/ GPwSI.
•         Occasional prescribing availability for medic leave in Lothian services

The Drug Treatment and Testing Order Scheme (DTTO) operates across Edinburgh City, East and Mid Lothian.  It is a Criminal Justice Social Work led service that employs NHS Lothian medical and nursing staff to provide addiction treatment as part of the supervised court order.

Within Lothian there are sectorised and geographical Substance Use Services providing high quality addictions services to all residents of Lothian. Each service is part of the local Health and Social Care Partnership. There are partnership arrangements with social care and voluntary organisations.
