The national decontamination agenda currently addresses a significant aspect of the public health agenda in relation to the control and prevention of Healthcare Associated Infection and iatrogenic transmission of vCJD.
Health Facilities Scotland is a division of National Services Scotland and provides operational guidance to NHSScotland bodies on a range of healthcare facilities topics. We deliver and co-ordinate effective advice and support in relation to national facilities, decontamination and equipping and technical matters which support and improve health and well-being services.
The Decontamination Team within HFS undertakes projects on behalf of the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorate and provides support to the NHS Scotland Boards. The aim of these projects is to improve the decontamination of medical devices undertaken within central, endoscope and local decontamination units throughout NHSScotland and the independent sector.
We are looking for a trainee Authorising Engineer’s (Decontamination) who will work under supervision of a registered AE(D) to complete the AE(D) competency training framework set by Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM). Eastwood Park Training manage and the IHEEM AE(D) competency framework Authorising Engineering (decontamination) Competency Framework (eastwoodparktraining.co.uk). The postholder will work as a member of the Decontamination Team at Health Facilities Scotland, who provides decontamination advisory and audit services to healthcare organisations in both the NHS Scotland and private sector. Supported by the Team, the postholder will complete the training framework and be registered with IHEEM within 2 years of the appointment.
The role of Authorising Engineer (Decontamination) is described in Health Technical Memorandum 0101/SHTM 00. The postholder must have a minimum 3 years recent and appropriate experience in a wide range of decontamination equipment, such as sterilizers and/or washer disinfectors. In addition, the postholder has an excellent interpersonal, management and organisational skills, proven change management experience and the ability and drive to support the delivery of a challenging national agenda.
