The Specialist Physiotherapist will perform the physiotherapeutic assessment, provide a diagnosis, and develop and deliver an individualised treatment program. This may entail working independently within a hospital or community setting with supervision available from senior staff.
Requires a sound specialist knowledge base in order to supervise more junior staff grades in complex cases. The higher number of complex in-patients than ever requires more specialist PT knowledge/skills.
Needs to be responsible for quality improvement initiatives and service delivery within the national frameworks.
Need to work as an autonomous practitioner within the specialty, taking full responsibility for an identified caseload.  
Needs to be responsible for training and supervision of colleagues, the MDT, and students.
Work independently to provide emergency respiratory on-call care to support the delivery of the 24hr service to critically ill patients.
And the ability to train other colleagues to become competent to undertake on-call duties.

Takes a lead role for a designated clinical area with a caseload incorporating patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge. Has responsibility for the supervision, education, and development of more junior staff, physiotherapy support workers, and students within the specialty. Provide a specialised resources to other healthcare staff/patients/carers. Has active involvement in Clinical Governance and Clinical Effectiveness and Research

The successful candidate will have achieved the following skills & attributes:

Registered Physiotherapist with valid HCPC registration

Educated to/working towards/operating at degree level

Postgraduate expertise within a specialty/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safely, effectively, and efficiently. 

Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the specialty/area of practice.

Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies, and procedures associated with the specialty/area of practice ensure that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within the specialty/area of practice.

Leadership skills to enable the day-to-day management of service delivery.

Further education/evidence of continuous professional development in the area of specialty including study days/courses/postgraduate qualification

The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using their own initiative and excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Effective time management skills

Working knowledge of basic information technology
