An opportunity has arisen within the Histopathology and mortuary departments for a dual role position as an Associate Practitioner/Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technologist.  This is an opportunity to join us working in our purpose built and state of the art laboratories and mortuary.  Candidates will be enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated and innovative, with good organisational skills and well developed communication skills.

 

The department processes approximately 10,000 histology requests and up to 1000 non gynae cytology requests per year. Approximately 150 post mortems per annum are performed.


The laboratory including the mortuary is ISO15189 accredited by UKAS for a diverse repertoire of tests. The department utilizes a wide range of equipment; most recently the Seal safe and ARCOS block management system, of which you will be required to become proficient in after suitable training, following Departmental SOPs.


The post holder will also have responsibility to rotate through the mortuary and assist with the reception and release of the deceased, accurate recording of valuables and property, viewing and identification procedures and assistance with post mortems alongside the Consultant pathologist following completion of the anatomic pathology technical level 3 diploma. The post requires a high level of manual handling.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake the RSPH level 3 diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology qualification as part of the mortuary training and also complete the IBMS certificate of achievement.
