The NHS Highland Orthopaedic Service is seeking an advanced level, highly effective and motivated HCPC registered Physiotherapist to join the team of Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners working in the hand therapy team.

As an Extended Scope Practitioner in Hand Therapy, your role will be to assess, manage, treat and advise patients with both acute hand injuries and chronic hand and wrist conditions. This includes referral for further investigations and interpretation where necessary.  You will work with a patient group, often out-with the traditional Physiotherapy remit and will make decisions about the appropriate management plan for each patient. You will work closely with the Advanced Hand Therapy Practitioners and multidisciplinary team which includes regular multi-disciplinary team meetings with the hand consultant and triage of Orthopaedic hand and wrist conditions. As part of the role, you will independently assess new patients off the Orthopaedic waiting list and devise a treatment package. You would be expected to have injection skills or be training towards accreditation and be prepared to undertake training to perform guided injections using a Mini C Arm.

You will be expected to provide leadership, clinical education and mentorship for the Physiotherapy staff within NHS Highland and work closely with the hand Consultants and Hand Therapy Team to help develop the hand service. You will be expected to be involved in implementing and leading on clinical audit, assisting in research and promoting evidence-based practice within the service area, to ensure we are a service that responds to national policy, initiatives and clinical governance.

You should be an excellent communicator with well developed teaching skills and leadership qualities. You should be a forward-thinking team player, with a proven track record of innovative approaches in Physiotherapy practice, and demonstrable high-level skills and knowledge in management of Hand and Wrist conditions including wider musculoskeletal skills to assist in ruling out other pathology. Ideally, we would like you to be a member of the British Association of Hand Therapy and be prepared to advance your training possibly working towards your accreditation.
