You must be registered with the General Dental Council and hold the National Certificate in Dental Nursing or Oral Health Care Dental Nursing SVQ level 3 or equivalent and have a current portfolio of Continuing Professional Development.

It is essential that you hold the NES accredited Childsmile Dental Nurse Training Qualification (EDDN) - SQA SCQF level 8, with 2 SCQF credit points.

A post qualification National Certificate (equivalent to SVQ Level 4) would be desirable but not essential to the role e.g. Radiography or Oral Health Promotion.

  • Sound knowledge of all elements of the Childsmile Programme.
  • Minimum one years’ experience post qualification.
  • You will be expected to attend continued professional development and Childsmile training updates in order to maintain their GDC registration during their time in post as a Childsmile Dental Nurse/EDDN.

An interest in treating Priority Groups is desirable as is experience of assisting in clinical sessions for patients with additional care needs, complex medical histories and/or who display challenging behaviour.

We require a motivated individual with excellent communication skills who can work well within the team. You will be required to provide full chair side assistance to the clinician, carry out dental reception duties and decontamination duties within the Local Decontamination Units & within the dental surgery.  Current and relevant chair side experience is essential. You should have excellent organisational skills, be highly motivated, and be able to priorities workload, have excellent communication skills with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.

Experience and knowledge of dental software packages is desirable.

You will be required to work across Ayrshire at all Dental sites including HMP Kilmarnock.  

This post is a permanent position 37.5 hours per week.

Band 4: £23,709 - £25,982 per annum pro rata.

A full driving license and access to a car are essential.
