Post DetailsThe State Hospital Board for Scotland is delighted to present this unique opportunity for a qualified Health Psychologist.  

This is an exciting opportunity for a Health Psychologist to work in a forensic high secure hospital psychology department. This is the first post of its kind and underpins the commitment of The State Hospital to improve the physical health and well-being of patients on their recovery journeys.  The post holder will take a lead role in providing strategic advice to stakeholders on scientific approaches to improving the physical health and well-being of patients within The State Hospital. The post holder will also provide advice to the wider Forensic Network in Scotland to promote the role of Health Psychology interventions for Forensic patients in Scotland. The post holder will be critical to implementing and evaluating psychologically informed physical health and healthy living strategies within The State Hospital, delivering training to front line staff on healthy lifestyle motivational approaches such as - MAP of health behaviour change learning programme, whilst closely liaising with colleagues in NHS Education for Scotland.  The post holder will provide consultation to clinical psychologists and nurse therapists in delivering group and one to one therapy focused on improving physical health and healthy lifestyles.  The post holder will carry a small caseload of patients with complex physical health needs, for example, weight management, cardiovascular difficulties and diabetes.  There are opportunities to develop leadership skills, inform national strategic developments, and trail blaze in new research territory.  The State Hospital has a strong track record in supporting research.  Excellent CPD and training opportunities are also available. 

Experience – We are seeking a professional with an accredited qualification and training in Health Psychology, for example, Doctorate in Health Psychology, recognized by the BPS. You must be an HCPC Registered Psychologist with a specialist in Health Psychology.  You must have experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients in a range of health psychology settings focused on physical health problems assessment and interventions.  You should have extensive knowledge in the application of health psychological, behavioural science approaches and models to complex health issues and lifestyle change. Health Psychology experience in a forensic setting is an advantage.
