Job Advert
NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Ayrshire and Arran & NHS Dumfries & Galloway
1 year Fixed Term Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery
Based at University Hospital Hairmyres, Lanarkshire
This post is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the second major vascular unit in the West of Scotland covering the populations of NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and NHS Dumfries and Galloway. On offer is an excellent opportunity to contribute to vascular and endovascular surgery in a large, expanding unit which will serve approximately a 1.2million population and will be one of the largest vascular units in Scotland. Plans are in motion to deploy additional infrastructure including building a state of the art hybrid operating theatre and new interventional radiology suite to compliment the surgical facilities already available.
Since August 2019, the centralised vascular unit at University Hospital Hairmyres has been the hub for NHS Dumfries and Galloway emergency and elective vascular patients. At weekends, emergency patients from NHS Ayrshire and Arran are also received at UHH. The start date of the reconfigured centralised unit housing all elective and emergency patients from all 3 health boards is 1st August 2022.
Although the successful applicant will be based in University Hospital Hairmyres, they may also have commitments to clinics, day case theatre and other elective vascular activities in either NHS Ayrshire and Arran; University Hospital Crosshouse (20 minutes by car from Hairmyres), University Hospital Ayr (34 miles and 40 minutes by car from Hairmyres)
The emphasis will be on building a strong team structure to support all aspects of the regional vascular service. Due to the volume of both elective and emergency work currently done by both units, it is expected that the post holders will have ample opportunity to develop vascular surgical and endovascular skills. The current consultant staff are involved in the process of National Selection for Specialty Trainees and also reviewing Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) applications.
Applicants should hold full GMC registration with a license to practice and have at least two years’ full time post postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis). Applicants should also possess the MRCS (or equivalent) and have experience at middle grade/senior middle grade level in general surgery.
