Do you want to be at the forefront of transforming clinical pharmacy?  Do you want to work with a dynamic, supportive and friendly team? 

We are currently transforming our clinical pharmacy service across NHS Fife, as an integrated pharmacy service across hospital, primary care and specialist teams, under the new post of Head of Pharmacy for Clinical Services. The aim is to join up care for our patients across transitions of care and ensure the best outcomes for patients with their medicines.

We have an opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join our integrated clinical pharmacy team working across acute and primary care.  NHS Fife provides sustainable delivery of COVID-19 therapeutics to patients via the COVID-19 Outpatient Assessment (COPA) unit.  The post-holder will be responsible for the service provision for the delivery of nMABs and antivirals to this patient cohort.  Due to the unpredictability in new variants of COVID-19 and emerging therapies the post-holder will be required stay abreast of all updates and apply changes system-wide accordingly.

In addition this post is embedded in the with multi-disciplinary teams and based on service / strategic priorities and person skill-set will own a diverse portfolio within the Clinical Medicine Pharmacy team and apply advanced clinical practice pharmacy skills in a variety of in- and outpatient settings. A typical week would include:

•    Oversight of safe medications supply, governance and safety of COVID-19 therapeutics to the NHS Fife COPA unit
•    2 sessions in an acute district general hospital, as part of the wider hospital clinical pharmacy team in an advanced generalist medical role, providing leadership and educational supervision to foundation clinical pharmacists
•    6 sessions in an advanced practice role working across acute hospital and primary care, providing direct care to a caseload of patients as part of the MDT working across both in- and outpatient settings.
•    2 sessions professional development eg leadership, research and advanced practice

This post will utilise your clinical and prescribing skills to provide specialist pharmaceutical advice, as well as prescribing specialist medicines. You will be expected to contribute the driving of increased prescribing and medicines ownership in the Clinical Pharmacy Service in consultation with Lead(s) and Head of Pharmacy. You will also support the development of the wider pharmacy team, as well as medical and non-medical prescribers within the multi-disciplinary team. 

It is essential that you have either: a relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy/ prescribing sciences or equivalent experience, or be an independent prescriber, or are able to complete these within an agreed timescale. You will not be expected to have in depth clinical knowledge of this clinical speciality, as support and training will be provided - enthusiasm and an interest in this clinical area are key to developing this new role.

As a clinical pharmacy leader, you will be at the forefront of supporting research and developing clinical guidelines, for the management of patients within this speciality.  Previous leadership experience or completion of an advanced leadership course is desirable.

You will be required to demonstrate flexibility in relation to portfolio ownership in the speciality of Medicine due to the changing nature of the response to COVID-19.

NHS Fife Integrated Pharmacy Service

The NHS Fife Pharmacy Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people, and is provided by an integrated team of around 200 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team work across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.

There are also opportunities to become involved in a range of projects across the integrated Pharmacy service, as well as shaping the future vision for the service. As part of our staff engagement and leadership, our Pharmacy Senior Leadership hold monthly staff briefing sessions to update the team on new developments, celebrate achievements and to hear ideas from our staff.

Please note the job description is for a generic senior clinical pharmacist role and a detailed job plan and annual objectives will be agreed in line with strategic priorities.

This post will also support on call, evening, weekend and public holiday service provision as part of the wider pharmacy team). Flexible working or minimum of 4 days per week may be considered.
