This post is full time and the shift pattern is over 5 days Monday to Friday.


The post holder will be:

  • required to carry out a dual role with half of their workload being aligned as a Medical Secretary to the Respiratory Service while the other half of their time will be spent fulfilling a Supervisory role to support the Administration Manager.
  • in their Medical Secretary role, required to provide a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to the Consultants and associated medical staff within the Respiratory service. The role is highly specialised and diverse. It demands excellent organisational skills along with a high degree of knowledge and accuracy in both secretarial and administrative procedures.
  • while fulfilling their Supervisory role, expected to provide support to the Administration Manager. ​​​​​​​This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to further their career and gain a wealth of experience in both supervising staff and effectively supporting the ECMS service. Duties will include the monitoring of typing turnaround times, absence management, authorising annual leave, staff training, ensuring appropriate distribution of the workload as well as ad-hoc work requested by the Admin Manager and any other required tasks.

The post holder must have:

  • excellent communication skills, experience in dealing with the public, colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • the ability to concentrate on essential tasks despite frequent interruptions.
  • the ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload, meet tight deadlines and have a good knowledge of all Microsoft software packages.

It is desirable for you to have a Business Management/Administration Qualification or equivalent knowledge and skills in medical administration.
