Band 5 Occupational Therapist for the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team, Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership - Aberdeenshire Central

37.5 hour 11 month fixed term contract

NHS Grampian is thrilled to be advertising for a full time Band 5 Occupational Therapist (11 month fixed term contract) for the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team, in Aberdeenshire Central.  

We are looking for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our established team. Service provision is to patients (aged over 65) with both functional and organic mental illness. The post holder will be work alongside a band 6 Occupational Therapist and multidisciplinary team, as well as being part of the older adult mental health Occupational Therapy service across Aberdeenshire.

Although established, we are excited to be involved in shaping and improving of the service and experience of service users and developing multi-professional approach to maintain meaningful skill for our community patients and facilitate inpatients discharge back into the community setting.

In this post, the successful applicants will have the opportunity to be involved in:

  • Assessment of daily living skills and meaningful occupation for patients referred to the service
  • Developing therapeutic approaches/treatment for people who experience functional illness, including Behavioural Activation and occupational goals
  • Development of Journeying through dementia and Home Based Memory Rehab
  • Expanding the use of Risk Enablement to support individuals in the community
  • Working closely with patients and carers to identify treatment goals and treatment interventions
  • Explore the links into community resources to maintain wellness
  • Developing the use of the Newcastle Model to identify unmet needs in patients exhibiting symptoms of stress and distress
  • Exploring the use of sensory integration principle within older adult mental health
  • Using Quality Improvement methodology to improve patient care and treatment

​​​​​​​Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant placement/Work experience in the specialist area of mental health or with older adults
  • Competent assessment, treatment and discharge planning skills
  • Delivery of Occupational Therapy treatment on an individual and/or group basis as required 
  • Considerable skills in communication, effective organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to help provide delivery of a high standard of service. 

A driving licence and access to a car required is required for this post. Flexible working, including evening and weekend work may be required to meet service demands.

Regular supervision and support will be provided as will the opportunity to self-develop through the use of an annual development review and a Personal Development Plan.
