An opportunity has arisen for Registered Nurses (Band 5) to join our highly motivated Nursing Team within Department of Medicine for the Elderly at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Ward 8a consists of 28 in-patient beds. Patients are admitted to the
Ward via a number of patient pathways including Acute Receiving and High Dependency Units. The patients we care for are acutely unwell on admission and require nursing staff to possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of the care of acute unwell older patients.
Providing care to the acutely unwell older patient represents one of healthcare’s most challenging but rewarding disciplines. The successful candidate will care for patients with a wide range of clinical conditions including dementia and delirium. Therefore as well as being able to demonstrate and provide the clinical skills to care for the acutely unwell older patient you will have a caring, compassionate approach to care and display excellent
communication skills, all of which is essential to this role. The Wards are fast paced, challenging environment with a high turnover of patients. Patients who have been stabilised are transferred to a Rehabilitation Unit either here at the QEUH or off site. In circumstances - when recovery allows - patients are discharged home. Nurses must demonstrate an awareness of the common elements of Discharge policies and planning and the challenges this can present. The importance of transferring knowledge and skills from theory to practice is paramount in the delivery of high quality patient care, therefore we will support you with personal development and ensure you receive appropriate training to undertake extended roles e.g. cannulation, phlebotomy and intravenous drug administration.
You will be required to work a fully rotational shift pattern of 12 hour day and night shifts over a 7 day period, including both weekends and bank holidays.
