Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a special health board within NHS Scotland, with responsibility of developing and delivering education and training for the healthcare workforce in Scotland.

The purpose of the Quality workstream within the Medical Directorate of NES is to ensure that the quality management of postgraduate medical education and training is to the standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC).

What you'll do

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  • Manage the Deanery led visit programme by ensuring appropriate trainee and trainer attendance and that the visit team is appropriately constituted.
  • Following Deanery visits, prepare a report, taking account of the GMC standards.
  • Collate and analyse all quality data for the previous training year (this will include survey results, reports & trainee comments).
  • Draft updates to the General Medical Council (GMC) for items in the Deans Report.
  • Ensure that Annual Reports are received from Training Programme Directors and Local Education Providers / Directors of Medical Education.
  • Prepare an annual report for the relevant specialty grouping and present it, with medical colleagues, to those providing leadership of postgraduate quality management.
  • Work with Quality Improvement Managers across Scotland to standardise processes and procedures.
  • Line manage administrative staff.

What you'll bring

These will include but are not restricted to;​​​​​​​

  • Educated to degree level or possess the equivalent level of extensive training and experience.
  • Good depth and breadth of knowledge and experience of quality management, business management and operational management.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of medical education, Freedom of Information, Data Protection, etc.
  • Experience of data collection, management and reporting.
  • High level of interpersonal, organisational, administrative and communication skills.
  • High degree of tact and diplomacy.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Confident using own intiative and problem solving.
  • Strong team worker with the ability to work independently.
