NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest healthcare system in the with an annual revenue budget of £3.2 billion, employing around 39,000 staff. We deliver local services to a population of over 1.2 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. Our Human Resources Occupational Health and Safety Services are delivered across our Acute Services, Corporate areas including Estates and Facilities and our six Health and Social Care Partnerships.
We are now looking to recruit a new Head of Health and Safety who will be responsible and accountable for the development and implementation of Health and Safety Strategy and Policy across NHS Greater Glasgow and .
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, dynamic and innovative individual who can promote excellence in Health and Safety throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and to ensure our staff have the optimum safe working environment.
As the NHS Board’s expert lead in all matters relating to Health and Safety the successful candidate will be a key member of the Human Resources and Organisational Development’s Senior Management Team and will have a pivotal role ensuring our health and safety management systems are in line with current legislation and are best in class.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development and working with the Occupational Health and Safety Manager we require the post holder to provide professional leadership to our Occupational Health and Safety professional team with an emphasis on the development of a strong Health and Safety culture across the organisation including leading on key elements of our Staff Health Strategy.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced professional to embrace an exciting and varied role requiring both a strategic and operational approach to ensure delivery of professional standards and performance management across all aspects of Health and Safety.
The post holder will be expected to provide advice to the NHS Board’s Directors and Chief Officers and work in partnership with representatives of our Staff Professional Associations and Trade Unions on a wide range of Health and Safety compliance matters.
The successful individual must demonstrate significant knowledge and application regarding current health and safety legislation and bring extensive experience of operating at scale within a large and complex multisite organisation delivering public services 24/7.
Current and extensive experience in a senior Health and Safety leadership role is essential along with a successful track record in the delivery of professional standards and performance management across all aspects of Health and Safety systems. You must have a good knowledge and understanding of risk management principles.
This unique and highly visible role requires the vision, political acumen, tactical skills and resilience to operate against a background of multiple competing demands.
Educated to degree level or equivalent with a post graduate qualification in a relevant Health and Safety subject or management. Candidates must have the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent and be chartered with IOSH, Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.
