​​​​​​​We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapist  to lead our dynamic Medicine of the Elderly Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Team.  You will be based within the Royal Victoria Building (RVB) at the Western General Hospital which comprises of 4 26 bedded  Medicine of the Elderly wards, as well as a 17 bedded GI ward.  There are excellent rehabilitation facilities including 3 large gym areas.  

Candidates must display evidence of excellent clinical reasoning with this complex and frail elderly population, as well as show an advanced ability to prioritise and discharge plan for a wide range of presentations.  You will have advanced rehabilitation skills as well as experience in treating acutely unwell patients.  In addition some knowledge of orthopaedic management of fractures following falls would be useful. 

You will have experience in service development and Quality Improvement methodology  to support a very proactive team who are involved in various Quality Improvement projects at a uni-professional and multidisciplinary team level within Medicine of the Elderly.

Candidates must demonstrate leadership skills to provide effective management for a team of 14 Physiotherapy staff comprising static and rotational Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Support Workers who provide a seamless service to patients within the RVB Unit.  

As Physiotherapy team lead for this Medicine of the Elderly Service you will participate collaboratively with the WGH’s other team leads across a range of organisational and professional topics as required by the service and as delegated from head of service. This will ensure an equitable service is provided across the hospital site. The Physiotherapy service operates a 5 days out of 7 working pattern in which you will participate, including on calls.

The range of conditions and specialities encountered, and requirement for excellence in leadership and team working in this post at the Western General Hospital will allow the successful candidate to gain extensive and in-depth experience as a clinical band 7 physiotherapist.

Physiotherapy Services support staff development through appraisal processes, supervision and CPD opportunities.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
