Job Advert

Niddrie Medical Practice is a small and expanding 4,200 patients, 4 GP practice providing high-quality, accessible and holistic healthcare to our patients in the heart of the Niddrie/Craigmillar community (SE Edinburgh). Our patients come from a diverse range of ethnic and social backgrounds, and we strive to make an ongoing and tangible difference to their lives. To do so, we take a collaborative and innovative approach to improving patient care, working together with community partners, NHS Lothian and the Scottish government. We benefit from spacious, purpose-built and bright premises owned by the Health Board.

We are looking for a GP to join our team. This role allows a significant opportunity for practice development and medical leadership. We are open to a commitment of between 4-8 sessions, as a partner or a salaried GP. Either way, we would welcome your involvement in our consensus approach to decision making. Whilst the post is available from late July 2022, we would happily wait for the right Doctor. The most important qualities we are looking for are being a team player with a commitment to high-quality healthcare and reducing health inequalities. An interest in GP training would also be beneficial but is not required.

We know that our ambition to make a difference to our patients' lives, is only achievable and sustainable if clinicians have reasonable workloads and are supported by excellent organisation and team work. Because of this, we have regularly scheduled breaks, and we strongly support staff development and training. We have a telephone triage and pre-booked appointment system to allow flexibility and enable continuity of patient care. We also schedule one paid development session per month for each GP to take forward ideas for quality improvement and practice development.

Our work is supported by an experienced and devoted team with a diverse mix of skills comprising Practice Nurse, Mental Health Nurse, Community Link Worker, Health Care Assistant, Physiotherapist and a Clinical Pharmacist. Clinicians are supported by 5 Patient Care Advisors, a Clinical PA and the Practice Manager. In addition to this, District Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors and Welfare Rights staff all work in collaboration with our practice in the same premises.

Weekly clinical team meetings facilitate joined-up working, knowledge sharing, case management and reflective practice. We are also committed to education and are currently training an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Furthermore, the practice is seeking accreditation as a training practice in the autumn with one partner about to complete the trainers' course. All of the partners have prior experience of GPST and medical student teaching.

If this opportunity might be of interest to you, we would be excited to hear from you and welcome an informal chat or visit.

Please contact our Practice Manager, Jules Riddell jules.riddell@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk   0131 652 9210 for a practice profile with more information.
