Paediatric Orthotic Rehabilitation Technician
The Paediatric Orthotic service based in the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow is currently recruiting for the position of Paediatric Orthotic Rehabilitation Technician. We invite applications for suitably qualified persons.
The post of Paediatric Orthotic Rehabilitation Technician is part of the team within the Paediatric Orthotic and Short Term Loan Wheelchair Service based within the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow (RHC).
The successful applicant will be required to provide skilled technical expertise and specialist knowledge in the manufacture of a comprehensive range of highly specialist Paediatric Orthotic Devices. The technician will work in conjunction with the Paediatric Orthotist on varied and highly complex patients. The work may include RGOs, Standing shells, Spinal, HKAFO, KAFO, AFO, Foot Orthoses and others as required for many differing medical conditions.
The post requirements will include manufacture, fabrication and maintenance of Orthoses to meet with the required quality standards and appointed time scales of the service. Componentry knowledge, stock control, ordering, team working, problem solving and innovation are all aspects of the post.
The successful applicant will also be required to provide skilled technical expertise and specialist knowledge in the assessment, maintenance, adjustment and supply of short term loan wheelchairs in Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital. They will be required to have excellent communication skills and be comfortable with face to face patient contact and direct working with members of the multi-disciplinary team including medics, AHPs, Nurses and administrators. Training for this will be given in post.
The post holder will operate at Band 5 level and will require, as a minimum, a relevant HNC or equivalent qualification or commensurate relevant experience. For example:
• An HNC in mechanical and production engineering with relevant Orthotic technical experience.
• A Level 3 NVQ in Providing Technical Services/Orthotics
• A PDA in Rehabilitation Technologies at SCQF 7 from SQA.
• Several years of Orthotic Technical experience over a broad range of treatments.
