An opportunity has arisen for a full time Clerk of Works (Building) to work in the Estates Department within the Facilities Directorate of NHS Grampian.

The post will be based initially at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, however this post will be required to work across all of Grampian to meet the demands of the service.  

We require an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated individual to work within a team that is committed to delivering quality physical works projects in support of the corporate aims of NHS Grampian. The successful candidate will be a team player with good organisational abilities, good communication skills and be able to prioritise their workload.  

Relevant previous experience of supervision in the building construction sector is essential, ideally with experience of working as a Clerk of Works. Experience in NHS setting is desirable. The post requires the minimum  of a recognised construction industry qualification up to degree level in a technical subject and the candidate should ideally be a chartered member of The Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) or The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or equivalent.   

The post involves ensuring physical infrastructure projects are built safely in compliance with relevant statutory, technical and NHS specific standards and in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. The post holder will be required to deal with a range of multidisciplinary teams of construction and health professionals and the post holder must be able to undertake detailed inspections and prepare reports on progress with construction works on live construction sites.


The candidate will require to have a comprehensive knowledge of building construction techniques and standards and be able to interpret and advise on highly complex designs to ensure buildings and related services installations are completed to the highest quality standards. The post holder will be required to demonstrate previous experience in the technical supervision of significant sized construction projects.

Knowledge and experience of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email are essential and familiarity with CAD drawing packages and construction related document management systems is desirable. Current driving license essential.
