Clinical Research Fellow in Infectious Diseases, FY2/St1-2 level

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Western General Hospital.
The post will be based in the Regional Infectious Disease Unit (RIDU) for the 12 month period based at the Western General Hospital and replaces an existing research fellow. The majority of the research work will be carried out in RIDU with a smaller proportion of time spent at the New Royal Infirmary, Little France and St Johns Hospital, Livingston.
The research fellow will be responsible for the oversight of the clinical aspect of infectious diseases studies in NHS Lothian including optimising care of patients with a wide range of infections including COVID-19 and HIV The successful candidate will provide clinical review for any adverse events in research study volunteers, as well as participating in the screening of and consenting study participants. The Clinical Infection Research Group has a wide base of Principal Investigators with a broad range of research areas and there will be opportunity for self -direction and development of work related to the fellow’s interests. Taking on a sub PI role and contributing to writing research articles will be encouraged. The fellow will work alongside highly experienced research nurses in the Clinical Research Facility, WGH and RIE as well as the Clinical Infection Research Group (CIRG) at RIDU. The research fellow will be supernumerary to the general infectious diseases medical team but may be asked to participate in ward work or outpatient work if appropriate, taking account of research responsibilities.
The Unit is capable of isolating all types of infections whilst providing the patient with a high standard of accommodation and is connected to the rest of the hospital via a link corridor into the Alexander Donald Building which contains the ICU, HDU and other medical and surgical wards. On the ground floor of RIDU there is a purpose built outpatient department, travel clinic, daybed area, and office accommodation.
The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
