We are recruiting 2 x band 8a Principal Psychology posts maternity leave cover for current post holders (1.6 WTE in total – 60 hours).  Both posts will be fixed term for 1 year and will be based at the Royal Hospital for Children on the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus, Glasgow. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain experience at 8a level in a vibrant specialist children’s hospital. 


Post 1 is 0.8 WTE (30 hours) to provide specialist input to the stem cell transplant service (haemotology and oncology speciality) across the Paediatric Psychology and Paediatric Neuropsychology services.


Post 2 is 0.8 WTE (30 hours) to provide specialist input to the complex respiratory service and other medical specialties across the Paediatric Psychology service and wider hospital as required. 


We would be happy to consider candidates who are interested in applying for these posts as a secondment as long as it has been discussed and agreed with current line manager at point of application.


We would also consider different configuration of hours as either part time and whole time working as overall 16 sessions available to candidates across the 2 posts. 




We are recruiting a band 8a Principal Psychologist.  This post will be fixed term for 1 year and will be based at the for Children on the campus, . This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain experience at 8a level in a vibrant specialist children’s hospital. 


You will provide specialist input to the complex respiratory service and other medical specialties across the Paediatric Psychology service and wider hospital as required. 





You will see both inpatients and outpatients. In addition, you will be expected to increase paediatric psychology capacity for direct psychological intervention by supporting multidisciplinary clinical colleagues through consultation on psychosocial care and contributing to MDT and ward meetings, as well as via teaching and training activities.  There will be opportunities for research and audit and an expectation to contribute to developing psychological service to prioritized aspects of previously unmet need. 


You will join a grouping of around 20 psychologists in Acute Psychology which provides a strong and supportive professional structure with good supervision.  This sub-department forms part of the network of around 70 psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services in NHS Greater Glasgow and and a much larger psychology workforce across the care groups in the health board.  There are good links with both the Glasgow University Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology and the Edinburgh University MSc course in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People.


Candidates will have post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS and registration with the HCPC as a clinical psychologist.  It is also anticipated that the successful candidate will have skills as a senior clinician to undertake clinical leadership roles and tasks, as well as being eligible to provide clinical placements and supervision according to University accreditation criteria.
