Medical Reviewer (Ref: 103278)
Permanent - 3.5 days per week (7 sessions)
£87,534 - £116,313 per annum (consultant salary scale or equivalent)
Edinburgh/Glasgow - Hybrid working will apply for the foreseeable future (with some requirement to travel throughout Scotland).
In this statutory role, Medical Reviewers deliver a single system for independent, effective review of death certification to drive improvements in quality and accuracy; provide improved public health information; and strengthen clinical governance.
Under the leadership and direct line management of the Senior Medical Reviewer, you will work as part of a team responsible for: delivering a robust and consistent approach to timely review of the accuracy of Medical Certificates of Cause of Death (MCCD); developing effective relationships with and supporting a range of stakeholders and providing support and education for certifying doctors across Scotland. As a senior clinician in the organisation, you will also play a key role in supporting Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Clinical Engagement Strategy in the field of death certification and beyond. This post will include an on-call rota commitment (currently 1in 9).
You will require to be a registered medical practitioner (licensed by the General Medical Council) where you should have broad experience of working at a senior clinical level with direct knowledge of death certification. Your clinical background will be complimented by excellent interpersonal skills and evidence of supporting others with their professional development.
This is a pivitol role that will not only strengthen clinical governance in relation to death certification but also enhance the quality of healthcare public health information helping shape future service delivery.
