Applications are invited for the above post in Respiratory Medicine, based in the Pleural Diseases Unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). This post will commence in August 2022 and is outside the MTAS process.
The Glasgow Pleural Diseases Unit provides specialist pleural services including Thoracoscopy and insertion and management of Indwelling Pleural Catheters, and accepts referrals from across the West of Scotland (WoS). It incorporates the National Mesothelioma Service, a McMillan/Mesothelioma UK Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist, a Pleural CNS and a team of clinical/research fellows. The unit has an active clinical research program with a particular interest in Mesothelioma, and plays an active role in delivering UK-wide clinical trials of pleural diagnostics and treatment.
Candidates would preferably be in possession of MRCP (UK) or equivalent, and have appropriate experience in General and Respiratory Medicine. This should include competence in pleural procedures and thoracic ultrasound assessment.. Applicants should be planning to continue in a career in Respiratory Medicine or a related specialty.
In addition to clinical duties within the Pleural Diseases Unit at QEUH, the post-holder will be involved in providing specialist respiratory input to inpatients in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. They will have the opportunity to train in Pleural Disease and advanced pleural procedures, including Thoracoscopy.
The post-holder will also be given the opportunity to undertake a period of supervised clinical research, leading to the award of an MD or other higher degree.
