An exciting opportunity to join the NHS Lothian Arts Therapies Service – a team comprising of over 30 Arts Therapists working across all age groups and all localities served by NHS Lothian.
The Arts Therapies Service provides Art, Music, Drama, Dance Therapy services to children, young people, adults and older adults with complex needs across all of NHS Lothian and specific additional partners (i.e. local authority social care and third sector organizations). Arts Therapies may be offered within NHS venues or other community facilities.
For this role, Arts Therapy is provided to children and young people with mental health difficulties engaged in Tier 3 CAMHS services, Midlothian Team.
The successful applicant will be embedded within the CAMHS Team and be expected to plan care and respond to the identified needs of children and young people requiring Tier 3 services. The team will be following the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA – camhsnetwork.co.uk) so this will include a balance of arts therapies specific interventions as well as CAMHS core roles, Choice and Partnership appointments.
The band 7 role will include responsibilities for planning and responding the most complex cases as well as providing line management and clinical supervision to the band 6 Arts Therapists. They will also be required take up CAMHS leadership roles where appropriate. The post-holder will have access to training opportunities within CAMHS and may have opportunities to do other roles within the arts therapies team as they arise.
This post may be of specific interest to clinicians with a minimum of two years of experience of working with children and young people with complex needs and preferably within a CAMHS team. The post holder will need to have a strong understanding of managing risk and demonstrate their experience of this, excellent communication skills and a capacity to be flexible and to adapt to current demands. The post will benefit from training and development opportunities, with regular supervision from within the Arts Therapies Team. The post holder will need to be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and be highly motivated and creative in their approach. In addition they will need to have the ability to adapt and modify therapy techniques for children and young people using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication. They will need to have the ability to work independently using own initiative and as a team member, linking closely with other health professionals, visiting specialists, and families as appropriate.
A written evaluation of the test of change will also be an expectation of the role.
