Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
This is a new post which will enhance our existing Acute medicine service and aid the rollout of mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke in Scotland. The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic and motivated team of acute and stroke physicians in RIE. Our services have a passion for education, training, quality improvement and clinical research.
The job is for a Consultant in Acute Medicine and Stroke Medicine and will be for up to 10 PAs of which 4 will be attributed to acute stroke in RIE and 6 will be delivered in Acute Medicine. Less than full time working will be considered.
For approximately 7 in 10 weeks per year, the post holder will be working within acute Medicine at RIE. The post will provide a full commitment to the front door unscheduled care pathways supporting the interface team, the acute medical take and general medical inpatients in downstream wards. The structure of the post allows a degree of flexibility in how this can be delivered.
For approximately three in ten of the working weeks of the year the postholder will be at the RIE with sessional commitments to leading the hyper-acute stroke team responsible for assessing patients with acute presentations, overseeing delivery of thrombolysis and, in the near future, thrombectomy. This will involve ward rounds on the hyper-acute stroke unit (HASU), care of patients in the stroke unit and involvement in the regular departmental consultant meetings, radiology, quality improvement and research meetings.
The post holder will contribute to the regional telestroke rota which supports decision making outwith 9-5 Monday-Friday and extended hours working on the RIE site into evenings and weekend days. Non-clinical interests are encouraged. The successful candidate will contribute to service planning; delivery of undergraduate teaching; supervision of junior doctors; clinical governance and quality improvement and growing the clinical research portfolio including acting as principal investigator (PI) for network sponsored trials.More detailed departmental and specialty information can be found in the job description available via email address / link below.
