Director – Acute Services (South Sector)
Executive and Senior Manager Grade F
£95,419 - £128,254 per annum (pro rata for part time)
Permanent – 37.5 hours

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) has the largest Acute Services delivery model in Scotland covering a range of diverse services from local ambulatory care sites to the largest and some of the most modern health service facilities in the UK. With an Acute workforce of around 21,000 staff and an annual revenue budget of £1.3 billion, our Acute Services Division operates through three Acute Sectors and three Directorates with cross site responsibilities .
The Role
Due to the retiral of the current post holder we are now looking to appoint a new Director-South Sector.
This is a highly visible role reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer- Acute, with responsibility across a highly complex NHS system which delivers a full range of Inpatient, Outpatient and Emergency Services and hosts the Major Trauma Unit for the West of Scotland Region.
The new Director will be expected to grasp, at pace, the short and medium–term priorities of the resulting changes in acute care resulting from the Board’s Moving Forward Together Transformational Plan and the impact on service and resource planning.
As a member of the Acute Senior Management team, the Sector Director will have the opportunity to fully contribute to and participate in the corporate management and governance of NHSGGC, working closely with the other Acute Directors and Corporate Directors of the Board to ensure effective cross-service coherence.
With overall responsibility for ensuring the South Sector delivers its key performance indicators across both scheduled and unscheduled care, the post offers further opportunity influence patient pathways and referral processes to support national policy initiatives and the development of Unscheduled Care Services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Partnership working is critical to the role to ensure increasing integration with our local authority partners as is working across the NHS system locally, regionally and nationally to maximise outcomes for patients through collaborative approaches and patient centred pathway re-design.

We are seeking someone who can demonstrate, the ability to develop an understanding of the strategic direction of a large and operationally complex multisite NHS Acute healthcare environment operating at pace and scale.
The candidate appointed will bring to the role a significant track record operating at senior manager/Board level preferably across a complex health and social care system balancing between strategic direction and delivery of high quality, safe and effective person-centred care.
The scale, profile and political complexity of the role should not be underestimated and therefore requires a high degree of resilience, tactical skills combined with the ability to deal with ambiguity. Inspiring and credible communication and influencing skills are all essential attributes.
Qualified to degree level with significant post qualifying experience and evidence of continuing, relevant professional and personal development is essential.
