The appointee will provide General Paediatric and level 1 Neonatal services for children in Moray, based at Dr Gray’s Hospital (DGH), Elgin, and will have an enviable work-life balance with a rural flavour.


The postholder will join three other Consultants based at DGH to contribute to General Paediatric on-call, Consultant of the week rota and General Paediatric clinics. The out of hours rota is supported by colleagues based at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital to function on a 1 in 6 basis.


This post offers exciting opportunities to become part of a team, developing the existing services in Grampian to create a vibrant service for children in Moray.  Sub-specialty interest is welcome.


The job plan currently consists of 10 programmed activities per week.  Responsibilities for ward rounds, Outpatient Clinics, Continuing Care, Administration, Teaching, Audit and Research will be shared with the existing consultant workforce.


The Paediatric Unit in Elgin is based in Dr Gray’s Hospital, a District General Hospital.  There are strong professional and clinical links with Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and the unit is managed as part of the Combined Child Health Service for Grampian.

This post is designated as Full Time.  However, other more flexible arrangements such as part time, job share etc. would be supported for the right applicant.


Dr Gray’s Hospital is located in the cathedral city of Elgin, which has a population of 23,000 within the county of Moray (total population 96,000).  It is set in an area of outstanding beauty with a milder climate than other parts of the North-East coast. There are regular railway services to Aberdeen and Inverness. NHS Grampian provides the perfect solution to all interests and lifestyles, with Aberdeen offering all the attractions of any major city. Aberdeenshire boasts many picturesque towns and villages within easy commuting distance and provides access to an enormous range of outdoor pursuits, ranging from fishing to skiing. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).   

 

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
