As the age and size of the population of Scotland is increasing, coupled with initiatives such as Realistic Medicine, What Matters to You? and the national Redesign of Urgent Care with the aim of providing the right care to the patient in the right setting, Scottish Ambulance Service staff are increasingly being called to deal with urgent care patients.
Applications are now invited for the role of Flow Navigation Hub Project Paramedic. There are five posts available and post holders will work closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders with organisations including; national Scottish Government programmes, Territorial Health Boards and Third Sector organisations to support achievement of the strategic aims of the Service.
The aim of the Flow Navigation Hub initiative is to improve the care we can deliver as a service to people with urgent care needs. There will be opportunities to develop improvements across the entire patient journey. This work will include:
- Support development of SAS links with health boards, including Flow Navigation Centres and regional clinical pathways.
- Support the development and delivery of the training required for staff to ensure the agreed changes in practice are understood by staff as defined by the Flow Navigation Programme.
- Rotate through and support the SAS flow navigation hub as required.
Applicants should be a HCPC registered Paramedic with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate significant clinical knowledge and understanding of Realistic Medicine, the SAS clinical decision making framework and delivering education and/or mentorship to healthcare colleagues.

Working Pattern: Monday – Friday office hours with the potential need to work flexibly to deliver the needs of the programme
Location: Working from Home, Travel to various locations across the region with possibility of infrequent travel nationally. Each post holder will be responsible for one region, East, West or North alongside national responsibilities.
