Located in the North East of Scotland, Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with quick, easy access to its beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline. Aberdeen has a large Anaesthetic department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services and offers many opportunities to develop research and teaching interests in collaboration with the local universities.

The post is being advertised at an exciting time for NHS Grampian with so many recent and planned developments on the Foresterhill site including the Baird Family Hospital and the new Elective Care Centre. Moreover, with Aberdeen becoming the first Major Trauma Centre in Scotland and the establishment of a new hub for emergency medical retrival services, there are excellent opportunities for an enthusiastic appointee to develop interests in a wide choice of areas.

The 10 programmed activities job description comprises 8 Direct Clinical Care and 2 Supporting Programmed Activities. On call duties will be approximately 1:7 and on a non-resident basis. The Cardiothoracic Unit in Aberdeen is a busy unit which covers the full range of adult Cardiac Surgery including OPCAB, Aortic Reconstructive Surgery and Less Invasive Cardiac Surgery, and supports an expanding Cardiac Electrophysiology and Percutaneous Intervention service including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.

This replacement post, joining with 6 other Cardiac Anaesthetists, offers a combination of fixed and flexible sessions in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, together with the opportunity to flexibly cover Thoracic and other specialities. There will be an availability supplement associated with this post and the successful applicant will share on-call and out of hours work in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.

Applications from candidates wishing to work on part time basis will equally be considered. It will also be possible to accommodate more flexible working arrangements including annualised job plans and job sharing.
