Job Advert
NHS Tayside has 1year LAT vacancies available within the Internal Medicine Training Programme. Applications will be considered for appointment at IMT1-3 level. Four posts are available. It is anticipated that candidates are likely to commence posts at an IMT1 level but if previous relevant skills and training can be demonstrated then there is the opportunity to be appointed at IMT2 or IMT3 level.
The successful candidate may be based across various sites in Tayside including Ninewells Hospital and Perth Royal Infirmary. The posts will commence 43rd August 2022 and are available for a fixed term period of 12 months.
Applicants must have successfully completed Foundation training or the equivalent as per the Person Specifications listed below.
The posts will involve 3x4 month rotations through different medical specialities including the Acute Medicine Unit, Medicine for the Elderly, Medical High Dependency and other various medical specialities. Out of hours work will be on the medicine ST1/2 rota, which is supported by resident on call Registrars at all times.
The successful applicants will follow the Internal Medicine curriculum and will be matched with an Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisors to advise and assess their progress. They will have a national ARCP to review progress at the end of the year. If a satisfactory outcome is achieved this training time may be counted towards completion of an Internal Medicine programme.
There will be access to national monthly IMT teaching as well as local monthly half day teaching which is mapped to the curriculum. There is also regular PACES teaching and simulation skills teaching for procedural skills.
The Postgraduate Dean has confirmed that this programme has the required educational and staffing approval.
Training programmes are open equally to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train less than full-time.
If appointed to a relevant Internal Medicine Training Programme through open competition, documented competencies achieved through a LAT can count towards CCT, or towards a CESR application for those not entering an approved Internal Medicine Training Programme.
These posts provide an excellent opportunity for doctors who wish to develop their experience in different medical specialities, gain experience in quality improvement and teaching, or who require a clinical post to support completion of postgraduate exams.
