NES have provided NHS Scotland with an exciting opportunity to host 13 Trainee Healthcare Scientists (Cardiac Physiology) within NHS Scotland. These positions will provide training in cardiac investigations including the specialist fields of Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Echocardiography (Echo). There are a total of 13 positions available across Scotland.  There is 1 place available at University Hospital Monklands.

The Cardiology team at University Hospital Monklands consists of 12 cardiac physiologists.  We provide a range of diagnostic investigations, including transoesophageal, transthoracic and stress echocardiography.  Exercise tolerance testing, ambulatory monitoring and tilt testing.  We also have a Physiologist led device service.

The successful candidates will be enrolled on the Scientist Training Programme. This is a post graduate programme and applications are invited from graduates who hold a first degree with a minimum of 2:1 in a pure or applied science. The academic aspect of the training will be provided and delivered in the North of England (exact university tbc) which includes distance learning and block release to attend the university for specialist training.  The majority of the clinical training will be delivered in-house at University Hospital Monklands but you may be required to attend other departments and organisations to gain specialist experience.  

The ideal candidates will have a committed in-depth interest and enjoyment of scientific practice and its application to direct clinical care. They will have excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills as well as proven experience of self-directed learning, research and problem solving. The post is therefore ideal for a self-motivated science graduate wishing to work within the field of healthcare science, whilst living and working in one of the country’s most desirable environments.
