We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated pharmacist to join the surgical pharmacy team at Raigmore Hospital. This is a new post, created to help support the opening of the new National Treatment Centre in Inverness, caring for orthopaedic and ophthalmology patients, which will sit under the remit of the surgical team. The team is also responsible for providing specialist pharmacy input within the Department of Critical Care, surgical admissions, general surgery, acute pain and theatres and anaesthetics. You will work within the friendly, supportive and welcoming pharmacy team, which includes the Lead Pharmacist for Surgery and Anaesthetics, Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for Critical Care, rotational and trainee pharmacists and clinical pharmacy technicians.
The role will be extremely varied and will be flexible to take into account any training requirements. You will be providing ward-based pharmaceutical care to patients in surgical admissions, general surgery or the Department of Critical Care on a rotational basis with other members of the pharmacy team. This will include prescribing for patients and participation in ward rounds. Other duties will include guideline and protocol development to ensure the smooth running of clinical areas without daily pharmacist input; audit and quality improvement; managing the supply of high-cost drugs and supporting the training and development of both pharmacy staff and students and the wider MDT. You will be required to visit the National Treatment Centre where required to undertake these duties, although you will be based at Raigmore Hospital. The pharmacy team have good working relationships with other professions across the surgical division within Highland and you will be a fully integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team.
The post provides many opportunities for personal and professional development; you will be able to build on your clinical, leadership and strategic skills. Candidates should be good communicators, enthusiastic, self-motivated, a strong team player, innovative and able to problem solve and prioritise. You will be a registered pharmacist with a Masters Degree in Pharmacy and relevant post-registration experience. Post-graduate qualifications including a Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy and Independent Prescribing are desirable, but support and encouragement will be given to help the right candidate to achieve these within the role. Previous experience within surgery is not required as there will be opportunities for learning within the role. We would welcome applications from pharmacists within all sectors of pharmacy, as this role would offer the opportunity to build on transferable skills. We would also be happy to consider applications from pharmacists who want to work less than full-time.
You will be required to work in the emergency on-call, weekend working and public holiday rotas.
