As an Advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) within the Scottish Paediatric Cardiac Service, the post holder will provide a high quality holistic service to children and their families with congenital and acquired heart disease. The ANP will work across the cardiac service including the specialist cardiology ward and outpatient setting.

The successful candidate, once trained, will work autonomously as an expert practitioner and collaboratively with nursing, medical staff and other healthcare professionals  The ANP will perform advanced patient assessment including history taking, clinical examination, prescribing, ordering and interpreting chest x-rays, ECGs and blood investigations. On-call duties are undertaken as part of the registrar rota, taking internal and external cardiology referrals from multidisciplinary teams throughout Scotland. Utilising skills of advanced communication, clinical knowledge and decision making to effectively manage complex patient care, enabled by the supervision of cardiology consultants.  Their role within the cardiology MDT encompasses clinical, education, leadership and management, research and audit.  Royal Hospital for Children provides a national service for cardiac surgery and cardiac catheterisation. The inpatient ward area has 14 beds providing specialist facilities from birth to 18 years of age, admissions can be both elective and emergency. .​​​​​​​This post is a training post although we welcome applications from current nurse practitioners. The candidate will be expected to complete a Masters of Science in Advanced Nursing practice. As a training post this is subject to Annex 21.
