Why not consider an opportunity to work as a Nurse Consultant within NHSCCG Infection Prevention and Control Team? Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a high priority for the NHS in Scotland. The IPC Team aims to ensure the provision of a safe environment, which minimizes the risk of infection to patients, staff and visitors. The successful candidate will become a senior member of the IPC Team who under the leadership of the Director for Infection Prevention and Control will provide strategic and clinical leadership in infection prevention and control across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) nursing, midwifery, health visitors, and other professional groups. The post holder will lead and manage both the infection prevention and control nursing service and function. The post holder will be a clinical expert in the specialist clinical field of Infection Control. The post holder will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care throughout NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, expert practice, and advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and leading on research in their clinical field building on the body of nursing knowledge in this specialist area. The post holder will be an expert resource both internal and external to NHSGGC in the field of infection control and will manage the infection control nursing team, surveillance nurses and administrative assistants across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The post holder will monitor and improve standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit, disseminating research, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership. The post holder will contribute to clinical governance within the service by providing the lead for audit and research. In conjunction with the Lead Infection Control Doctor and the Director of Infection Prevention and Control; the post holder will have ultimate responsibility for ensuring the provision of a safe and effective Infection Control service within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The post holder will have key links and work strands with external agencies such as, ARHAI, NES, NHS Assure, SG HAI Policy Unit, HIS, National Infection Control Nursing Network. The post holder will develop, with others, effective Quality Improvement strategies which will lead to improvements in patient care and will also ensure the provision of effective education and training in all aspects of infection control to staff throughout NHS GGC. To ensure that monitoring and surveillance information is provided, contributing to clinical governance and risk management. To ensure mandatory reporting of incident and outbreaks is in line with chapter 3 of the NIPCM The post is at a senior level which enables direct communication at senior management level within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and at National Level. We are therefore looking for a registered general nurse with a Diploma in Infection Prevention and Control and a degree at Masters Level with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior infection prevention and control post, experience of working across organisational and professional boundaries in a flexible, creative way, pertinent to HAI. The post holder should also be able to demonstrate experience of presenting clinical practice and research at national level, active involvement in research and managing teams. We are looking for an individual who has extensive and expert knowledge and experience of HAI, evidence of continuing professional and clinical development within the sphere of HAI, excellent presentation skills, highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, skilled leadership which would include negotiating and influencing skills, extremely competent in all aspects of Information Technology, the ability to work autonomously and make independent clinical judgements and decisions prioritising concurrent and competing issues.
