An opportunity has arisen at NHS Education for Scotland (NES) for a Dental Adviser to join an innovative and enthusiastic team within the Dental Clinical Effectiveness Workstream to lead and support the development and delivery of an education and training scheme, with opportunities for all members of the primary care dental team, to support the Scottish Government’s Oral Health Improvement Plan.
Who We Are
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.
The Dental Directorate is responsible for the management, funding and provision of postgraduate education for dentists and dental care professionals (DCPs) within Scotland and pre-registration training for dental nurses (DNs). Workstreams within the Directorate are responsible for the organisation and delivery of vocational training for new dentist and therapist graduates, continuing professional development courses for dentists and DCPs, overseeing the dental training grades in the Hospital Dental Service, reducing inequalities in oral health and, through its undergraduate interface, is responsible for the management of Dental Additional Cost of Teaching (ACT) and Student Outreach funds.
The Clinical Effectiveness Workstream generates and synthesises research evidence, makes national guidance recommendations and supports their implementation. It also contributes to the development and implementation of specific Scottish Government quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives. In this way the Clinical Effectiveness Workstream supports healthcare professionals to adopt and apply up-to-date knowledge and skills, facilitates the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based patient care and advances quality improvement.
