Relief Healthcare Support Worker
The Balfour
Band 2 £20,923 – £22,929 (£10.70 – £11.73 per hour) including Distant Islands Allowance pro rata per annum.

Do you have an interest or experience in providing care and hold excellent communication skills?  If so, NHS Orkney is looking to increase the Healthcare Support Worker bank and would like to hear from you.

As part of the multidisciplinary team, post holders will carry out routine personal care duties for patients in support of and supervised by a registered nurse. They will also carry out assigned duties to maintain hygiene, order and safety within the ward environment. Other duties will include maintaining good relationships with patients, carers, and relatives and refer them to a trained nurse for any questions they may have on the patient’s condition or for any suggestions or complaints they may wish to raise. Additionally, post holders will be required to report observed changes in the patient’s physical/psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records to ensure effective communication.

The successful candidates will have a minimum of Standard Grade level qualifications and an interest in developing their knowledge and skills within Health & Social Care or be working towards an appropriate SVQ qualification. They will also have, good interpersonal skills and be a team player.

It is essential that successful candidates have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and have an awareness of issues surrounding Infection Control along with the ability to deal with confrontational/ difficult situations.
