Glasgow Royal Infirmary is seeking to employ a dynamic and highly motivated registered Pharmacy Technician with medicine’s management experience to be part of the Critical Care team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacy technician to be seconded to critical care for 18 months. The successful candidate will work as part of the progressive MDT to manage the complex pharmaceutical needs of patients in the hospital who require advanced support.

Critical care on this site consists of 30 beds delivering Intensive and High Dependency Care. The units care for a defined patient group who require multiple complex interventions.

This role will play a vital part in ensuring consistent Medicine Management within the speciality by providing skilled expertise that will address the multiple challenges that exist within Critical Care in relation to medicine management.

The post holder will be responsible for managing the pharmacy top-up service and continual review of stockholdings to ensure the most appropriate medicines are kept in stock to meet the needs of the patients. A key aspect will be establishing a consistent approach to stock control, rotation, reduction of waste and the reduction of missed medicine doses. This new role will provide the opportunity to directly influence improvements in service delivery, improve patient safety and to deliver cost effective care.

We expect the successful candidate to work within the critical care clinical pharmacy team to support and provide education to medical, ACCP and nursing teams, advising on medicines management and best practice.

This is a new role to critical care and there will be the opportunity for tthe successful candidate to liaise with the MDT to identify, develop and implement future improvements within the unit ensuring we provide high quality patient focused, safe, efficient and effective pharmaceutical care.

You must be registered with The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and have an accredited dispensary checking technician qualification (PDCT).

You should have a minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience in a hospital setting and excellent communication skills. Experience of working in a Critical Care environment is preferred but not essential as suitable training will be provided.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend/public holiday working.
