Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
This post is a full-time (10 PA) substantive Consultant replacement post. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the overall general surgery workload of the department, which may include out-reach sessions (day case surgery and outpatient clinics) at St John’s Hospital, Livingston.
In addition, this post will be part of a 1 in 15 on call rota providing 24/7 elective and emergency general and upper gastro-intestinal services to the population of NHS Lothian. Both General Emergency surgical and Trauma admissions to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh are managed by a consultant of the week who has no elective sessions and full support of middle grade and foundation year doctors. The duties also include on-site week-end ward cover and nights on-call from home.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with the established bariatric multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be expected to manage patients within the weight loss programme, and possess the skills to perform bariatric surgical procedures, including gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, and to undertake specialist outpatient clinics.
NHS Lothian performs 50-70 bariatric surgical procedures per year shared between two full-time consultant surgeons (including this position) and supported by a specialist bariatric nurse practitioner and specialist dietitians. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further develop the bariatric service for NHS Lothian.
