Following Scottish Government investment, the Scottish Ambulance Service, Civil Contingencies Response Programme is a complex multi-million pound project to enhance the pre-hospital response to operationally challenging and major incidents. As part of this Programme, an exciting opportunity has arisen to support the delivery of clinical decontamination training to clinical staff from across the central belt of Scotland.  The successful incumbent would primarily operate within the East/Central Belt; however as the role has a national remit, nationwide travel should be expected.

The Person

To be successful in this role you will have a flexible, can do approach with excellent people skills and the ability to make decisions, at times in pressured situations. You will have developed excellent communication skills, both oral and written. It is vitally important that you are able to demonstrate the ability to work to a high standard using your own initiative and as part of a team within the multi-agency environment.

We would particularly like to hear from those who have experience of SORT / HART operations or relevant experience from a CBRN / HAZMAT environment.

In addition, they should hold or be willing to work towards, an appropriate level of teaching qualification (Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training / equivalent or above). Be able to demonstrate a proven track record of developing and delivering an educational curriculum within the service.

Reporting to the Training & Development Manager (CBRN), you will assist in managing all aspects of Specialist CBRN – clinical decontamination training to meet performance targets and Government requirements to support national emergency preparedness, within a delegated budget, in accordance with statutory and strategic objectives.

Application and Selection

Successful candidates must be a registered HCPC Paramedic and will be required to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of Special Operations / Hazardous Area Response, and have experience in the paramedic role with desirable training skills and qualifications, ideally PRPS and clinical decontamination. Incident, exercise and operational management experience would also be advantageous.

Major incidents can occur at any time and you will be required to provide a response in the role of Tactical Advisor, or similar leadership role.  The successful applicant may be expected to participate in a formal on call rota as part of the NRRD leadership team.

The nature of the role means that you will be required to deal with sensitive information for which security vetting to (SC) will be required in addition to other standard background checks.
