Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh.

This is a new post which has been created following multi-million-pound investment in the service by the Scottish Government. This is additional to an existing substantive 0.6WTE consultant, Dr Angela Jones, who already works within the established Paediatric Psychology and Liaison Team and is a development of the service. This is based within the new state of the art Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and provides a unique opportunity to develop the service further within post.

As a CAMHS team embedded in a new state of the art paediatric hospital, there are opportunities to promote natural partnership working with other health teams. The building is well equipped with clinical space. The liaison team is very well established, with a friendly atmosphere and supportive culture. The team comprises psychologists, nurses and art therapist. There is currently a focus on investment in our liaison services from the Scottish Government with additional resource identified for to this post.

Referrals to our liaison team are received from paediatrics and GP although are all in active treatment with RHCYP. There is an established relationship with our paediatric neurology colleagues, with regular weekly liaison meetings to discuss complex patients. Following the reprovision of RHCYP we are co-located with the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.

Our Unscheduled Care Team is an exciting new development which has been launched this year following a pilot project in 2020. This provides a service for young people experiencing a mental health crisis within Lothian and is staffed by experienced nursing staff. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be part of the development of this team, including providing support for complex assessments in RHCYP, consultant support for the team and negotiating the interface with our 24/7 on call service.
