NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We are looking to welcome enthusiastic HCPC registered occupational therapists with a keen interest in mental health into our Thrive Welcome Teams.

Various Hours Available. Please note: If this post is part-time the salary will be pro-rata.

Edinburgh City is undergoing a period of transformative change to improve access to mental health and wellbeing support. Occupational Therapy staff contribute to these improvements in their roles within the Thrive Welcome Teams.

The teams have been co-designed to deliver accessible, short-term, mental wellbeing interventions with adults in Edinburgh. People engage with the teams for a variety of reasons, such as anxiety, depression, poor emotional wellbeing and neurodevelopmental conditions. Challenges and strengths may include employment status, housing situations, community connectedness or social isolation.

The team members respond with their wide range of skills and experience. There is a multi-disciplinary and interagency approach. Our senior support workers and peer recovery practitioners are employed by third sector organisations whilst our mental health nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists come from statutory services.

All team members follow the Thrive model, whilst retaining and delivering their own specific knowledge, skills and experience.

The occupational therapy role has a particular focus on addressing the challenges that impact individuals’ daily functioning. Person-centred assessment, proactive interventions, self-management strategies and supports are utilised to enable citizens to manage their health, well-being and improve their daily lives. The collaborative, co-production approach of occupational therapy is well aligned with the Thrive welcome team model.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
