This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. 

To undertake the role of trainee nurse endoscopist (TNE), the post holder will utilise specialist clinical knowledge and experience, obtained through formal academic study, and a structured endoscopy mentorship program, to develop competence in diagnostic gastro-intestinal endoscopy.  

The role will involve being flexible to cross site working to maximize learning opportunities by attending and actively seeking out both formal and ad hoc training list opportunities where appropriate.  Additional to the development of endoscopic ability, trainees will be expected to cultivate accurate patient assessment skills, safe IV analgesia/sedation practice, patient monitoring, histology management, patient follow up, multi-disciplinary team referral/liaison. 

Trainees will have studied to degree level (or provide a piece of written work to the University to support their application). They will be expected to study 30 credits at MSc level through Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) Advanced Skills and Innovative practice (Endoscopy) module. Trainees will be expected to achieve competence and sign off using the Joint Accreditation Group (JAG) endoscopy training e-portfolio. 

Ultimately, post-holders are working towards independent nurse endoscopy practice with their own service commitment within 12 months of initial appointment.    ​​​​​​​
