Summary of the Post
We are now seeking to appoint, on a permanent basis, a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine with expertise in Frailty. This is based within the Larkfield Unit, a purpose built Rehabilitation Unit, at the Inverclyde Royal Hospital, (IRH) Greenock. The Larkfield Unit boasts excellent in-patient rehabilitation and clinic facilities as well as well-maintained outdoor garden spaces. IRH provides a full range of District General Hospital Specialties with excellent support facilities. We also have a major commitment to education and close links with Glasgow University and there is an active undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programme.
We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic consultant to join a well-established and friendly Older People and Stroke Service, providing acute assessment and rehabilitation across the Inverclyde area which comprises both urban and rural populations. This post provides an exciting opportunity to deliver and develop Older Peoples Services within an expert multi-disciplinary team.
Within this role you will be one of a team of Consultants supported by a dedicated team of specialist nursing staff who are committed to improving the patient pathway to promote and deliver high standards of patient care, outcomes, experience, safety and quality. Your application and interview will demonstrate the skill set needed to join us in delivering, developing and teaching expert care within this exciting and challenging specialty.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience in all aspects of geriatric medicine including additional evidence of Frailty expertise.
Duties of the Post
The post is for a Geriatrician within Older People and Stroke Services and has a sub-specialty of Frailty. The successful candidate will have a lead role in service development. As we emerge from a challenging two years, we are happy to now be able to revitalise our Frailty work and are looking for the right person to dynamically lead this service.
This post has no mandatory on call or out hours of work.
The Benefits
Salaries for a Consultant in Scotland start from £91,474 (GBP) to £121,548 (GBP) based on a 40 hour contract (10 sessions). Additional payments can be achieved for extra sessions and on-call commitments. Other benefits include Up to 6.6 weeks holiday per year and 8
days public holidays (pro rata less than full time hours if applicable). An NHS pension scheme, 30 days of study leave entitlement in any three year period and access to the NHS Scotland Discretionary Points financial award scheme. A relocation package up to £8000 to support relocation into the area if necessary.

As a substantive consultant in Scotland, you must have valid GMC (General Medical Council) Registration with a Licence to Practice (known as ‘Full registration’) and be included on the GMC Specialist Register in an appropriate speciality. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Geriatric Medicine or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration through Certificate of Eligibility of Specialist Registration (CESR).
