The Team
The team is the Prescribing Support Unit (PSU) within NHS Tayside’s Pharmacy Department in Kings Cross Hospital, although the location for this post can be flexible. PSU serves the entire organisation with solutions related to reporting and analytical applications related to medicines and prescribing. PSU is a small and friendly team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, prescribing support nurses and administrative staff. We work closely with finance and clinical teams to provide routine and bespoke reporting to support high quality practice.
Our data warehouse is based on Microsoft SQL Server and tools from Insource. For the Business Intelligence delivery, we are using Analysis Services, Reporting Services and Power BI from Microsoft. We are also using PowerBI and Qlikview extensively.
Your Role
As a Data Analyst you have a key role in providing colleagues from pharmacy, finance and other stakeholders with timely and accurate reporting utilising data sets and statistical services from NHS Scotland data warehouses, primarily the Prescribing Information System (PIS and PRISMS). This is a Business Objects database of all NHS prescriptions dispensed in the community within Scotland. The information is supplied by Practitioner Services Division (PSD) who are responsible for the processing and pricing of all prescriptions dispensed. DCVP (Data Capture Validation and Pricing) is the system used by PSD for this purpose and a monthly data feed takes place between DCVP and PIS.
You will also be dealing with ad-hoc requests for information from stakeholders within NHS Scotland, as well as external requests adhering to the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Another key part of the role is to maintain and augment existing reports and data sets using CMM BOXI database for Secondary Care Pharmacy Issues/ Rx Info database (database for Secondary Care issues from all NHS Scotland Health Boards) / Qlikview dashboard. NHS Tayside is implementing an EPMA system (Electronic Prescribing and Medicine Administration) and you will be able to develop links for collaborative working with the EPMA team.
About You
You are able to evaluate and analyse complex and/or large data sets by using tools such as SQL as well as Excel or any of the Business Intelligence tools on the market.
You have good attention to detail and you are able to work efficiently without detailed guidance.
You are able to work proactively with data quality issues and other aspects that are relevant to improve the quality of our data and information.
You are able to discuss and explain complex data problems with both technical and non-technical counterparts.
As a Data Analyst you should possess demonstrable experiences and skills constructing & modifying Business Object reports/ manipulating data within Microsoft Excel utilising all its functionality (pivot tables, look up tables, formatting etc).
Data related experience from the health care sector is desirable, although training to support understanding of prescribing and medicines management will be provided.
You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.

Hours of work are 37.5 although applications will be welcomed by those wishing to work part time or job share and working hours and location will be negotiable.
