​​​​​​​There is an exciting opportunity to apply for the position of Trainee Healthcare Scientist (Cardiac Physiology) within NHS Scotland. The position will be offered across Cardiac Investigations including Cardiac Echocardiography (ECH0) or Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM ). There is a total of 13 positions across Scotland.

There will be one post available within NHS Forth Valley at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The post will offer specialist training in all aspects of Cardiac Investigations. The cardiology team consists of 16 Cardiac Physiologist, 4 Cardiographers, a Cardiology Unit Manager, Specialist Cardiology Nurses and 11 Consultants.

We provide a wide range of diagnostic investigations, including transoesophageal, transthoracic, stress and paediatric echocardiography. Specialist valve and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy clinics, Exercise tolerance testing, ambulatory monitoring. We also provide complex device implantation and follow up and ILR implant service.

If successful you will be enrolled on the Scientist Training Programme. This is a post graduate programme and applications are invited from graduates who hold a first degree with a minimum of a 2:1 in a pure of applied science. The academic aspect of the training will be provided and delivered by either Newcastle University or Manchester University and will include distance learning and block release to attend the university for specialist training.

The majority of the clinical training will be delivered in house at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, but you may be required to attend other departments and organisations to gain specialist experience.

The ideal candidate will have a committed in-depth interest and enjoyment of scientific practice and its application to direct clinical care. They will have excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills as well as proven experience of self-directed learning, research and problem solving. The post is therefore ideal for a self-motivated science graduate wishing to work within the field of health care science, whilst living and working in one of the country’s most desirable environments.
