NHS Grampian

Clinical Fellow (ST1/CT1 Level)

Job Reference: EG109800

Clinical Fellow in Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration

eHealth, NHS Grampian

The eHealth Department in NHS Grampian have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Fellow working to support the upcoming roll out of Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA). This full-time post is available 12 months (start date to be negotiated).

NHS Grampian aim to begin rolling out HEPMA in December 2022 as part of the wider North of Scotland HEPMA implementation. This will include all inpatient sites and specialities across NHS Grampian including Community Hospitals, and follows the successful and ongoing roll-out of inpatient digital records. It will be supported by a team of Pharmacists, Registered Nurses and eHealth Facilitators, and the successful applicant will work closely within the team. Improvement in patient safety is the key driver for HEPMA implementation. The HEPMA system will provide a range of significant clinical, safety, informatics and management benefits to the organisation.

The post holder will contribute to preparations pre-implementation. This including process mapping, testing integrations between HEPMA and existing clinical software, developing standard operating procedures, and coordinating training. During roll-out, the post-holder will continue to be involved in training, on-site support, and transcribing medications to the HEPMA system from existing paper drug charts. While the majority of time will be spent in Aberdeen, the post holder will also be expected to assist in the roll out across Aberdeenshire, including Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin, and Community Hospitals across Aberdeenshire and Moray. The post-holder will also be expected to gather data to contribute towards quality improvement and benefits realisation. There will be regular meetings (mainly Microsoft Teams based) to track progress of the project, discuss problems as they arise, and suggest new ideas and developments.

The majority of the post holder’s time will be spent on the HEPMA roll-out project with the opportunity for 1-2 clinical sessions per week. This could be in any specialty based on the interests of the successful candidate, but would require negotiation with the relevant department.

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post).  For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org
