NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the UK’s largest provider of acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services. With a total budget of £3.2 billion and a workforce of around 39,000 staff it serves an immediate population of 1.2 million plus provides specialist regional services to more than half of Scotland’s population. The geographical area covered is diverse; from the major city of Glasgow, large and small towns, villages and some rural districts; and encompasses 6 local authority areas from East Dunbartonshire to Inverclyde.
Our Acute Services are delivered currently from three Sectors covering North Glasgow, South Glasgow and Clyde and three Directorates with cross site responsibilities covering Women and Children's Services, Regional Services and Diagnostics and Imaging. Inpatient and outpatient Acute and Medicine for the Elderly services are delivered across 9 sites which include Acute teaching hospitals of which the state-of-the-art Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children are co-located on one of the largest hospital campuses in the UK and one of the most advanced in Europe.
We have significant challenges ahead as we deliver the objectives set out in Better Health Better Care and we seek to ensure that we have the right people for the right posts delivering a comprehensive health service to the population of Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
We are now seeking to appoint, on a permanent basis a suitably trained individual who is able to provide both an emergency and elective urological service at consultant level. The elective sessions relating to the post will be delivered from the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), Paisley.
The emergency component of the post will be delivered across the Clyde Sector, but predominantly in the RAH, Paisley.
The successful applicant will join four other Consultant Urologists in providing comprehensive urological care to the population of Clyde (420,000 approx), Argyll and the Islands (100,000 approx).
Within this role you will join a team of four consultants who are committed to close, cooperative working and a great amount of flexibility is required to run the service efficiently, across three sites - Royal Alexandra Hospital, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Vale of Leven. A commitment to such close team-working will be essential.
A subspecialty interest- an interest in stones and core urology will be particularly welcomed.
In addition to providing clinical services, the successful candidate will be required to participate in the supervision of junior staff and to undertake the administrative duties required in a consultant job. This will include, but will not be exclusive to, the maintenance of appropriate patient records, keeping and participating in personal and unit audit and the retention of documentation for appraisal. All consultants are required to have an annual appraisal. Research will be encouraged especially if it has the potential to benefit direct patient care.
The successful candidate will be provided with appropriate clinic and theatre space to deliver his/her practice.
Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council, a licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher Specialist Training leading to a CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within six months of confirmed entry at the date of interview. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
To work as a consultant within the United Kingdom, you must have full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a Licence to Practice and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration through Certificate of Eligibility of Specialist Registration (CESR).
