The Team
The post-holder will be a part of an integrated Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW) team within the eHealth Department that serves the entire organisation with solutions related to reporting and analytical applications. Core areas are performance reporting and dashboards, statutory reporting to the Scottish Government, as well as applications of Statistical Process Control for patient safety. The BI and DW team is currently involved in the Covid-19 response with development involving testing, vaccinations and contact tracing.
The data warehouse is based on Microsoft SQL Server and tools from Insource. Analysis Services, Reporting Services and Power BI from Microsoft are used for business intelligence delivery. The team also use QlikView extensively and are in the process of introducing QlikSense.
For the right candidate we can offer flexible/remote working as the collaboration with colleagues and internal customers can be performed remotely.
The Role
As a BI Solution Developer, the post-holder will cover a spectrum of tasks from business requirements to data and solution architecture and development. They may also be involved in the ongoing development and operation of the data warehouse. The post-holder will build up an extensive knowledge of the data warehouse as well as the operational health care systems and business processes.
The post-holder will be expected to design and develop dashboards and reports that support quality improvements using statistical process control, as well as Covid-19 related developments.
The Individual
The post-holder will be able to discuss complex information requirements with senior
non-technical counterparts and can articulate data-related challenges and opportunities with constructive solutions. The post-holder will convert requirements into a solution that is visually efficient and appealing but also a solution architecture that is stable and orderly from a maintenance perspective. It is essential that the post-holder is able to cover the entire spectrum, from requirements to development.
As a developer, the post-holder is required to possess demonstrable experiences and skills with a majority of the tools the BI and DW team are using. They will be able to work with tools including T-SQL and SSRS, as well as MDX, DAX or the script language of Qlik. The post-holder will be proficient with data warehouse methodologies and concepts, as well as relational and multi-dimensional data modelling. They will appreciate the advantages of having a data warehouse strategy that provides the foundation for unified use of data across a variety of reporting and dashboard solutions.
A familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) techniques and run charts is desirable, as well as experience within the health care sector.
