Trainee or Qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner(s)
The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh has been designated one of the four Major Trauma Centres in Scotland, representing the South East Scotland region. The network provides all aspects of trauma care, from the point of injury to rehabilitation, in the region. We are seeking to appoint passionate and highly motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioners for the Major Trauma Centre to support the Major Trauma Service at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh campus.
This is a time of significant change for this service and the successful candidate(s) will work with the Major Trauma Centre Lead clinician, Allied Health Professionals, regional Major Trauma and rehabilitation leads, and other clinicians to deliver and develop specialist service for Major Trauma patients presenting to the Major Trauma Centre. A key focus will be on the development of services and pathways to support the Major Trauma Centre.
Working with the MDT and specialist consultant, the post holder will be responsible for the treatment and management plan for patients across the major trauma pathway.
The priority for this post will be to drive a high quality multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary response to the major trauma patient from point of injury to rehabilitation, including injury prevention to patients with Major Trauma. This will be within the quality framework of the Scottish Trauma Network and will require close working with regional and national leads, pre-hospital and rehabilitation services.

Applicants will have the ability to lead others, think strategically and communicate effectively; they will demonstrate how they will work collaboratively, influencing decisions and outcomes, and be committed to improving care in a complex healthcare organisation. Provide support and leadership to various specialties/teams within the major trauma pathway across the South East of Scotland, identifying and implementing innovation in clinical practice.
This is an evolving and dynamic role for which successful candidates will demonstrate advanced skills, knowledge and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The role requires the ability to work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide excellent service and care to patients and you will work closely with the Major Trauma Consultants across a variety of specialities including, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery and Radiology.
The minimum requirement for the posts is to be a registered nurse with significant experience within Emergency Medicine, any acute surgical specialty or critical care and a post graduate qualification in nursing or equivalent.
Major Trauma Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioners are required to undertake the Advanced Practice PG Diploma and be committed to undertake any further specialist trauma training as required.
The university course is due to start on the 2nd September 2022, and successful candidates would need to be able to start from this date.
The post holder will contribute to the clinical and management responsibility of NHS Lothian Major Trauma Service will be a lead specialist required to make complex decisions, based on the clinical presentation of patients.
Selection for the posts will be carried out using a clinical assessment centre and competency based interview.

*Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex U applies - This post is open to fully qualified or those wishing to undertake training*
For trainees covered by Annex U where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
- up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
- more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
- more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
- more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
