Consultant in Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service

Applications are welcome for the above 3 x Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in the Lauriston Building, the Pennywell All Care Centre (both Edinburgh) and St John’s hospital (Livingston).
NHS Lothian Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service have a long history in of providing multidisciplinary assessments and evidence-based treatments for children, young people and their families and carers. Our multidisciplinary teams comprise Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Community Mental Health Workers, Nurse Therapists, Dieticians, Speech and Language Therapists, Prescribing Pharmacists, Art Therapy, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers.
Lothian Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service provides specialist mental health assessment and treatment to children and young people (until 18th birthday) in Lothian. The Service has 5 geographically located “Tier 3” outpatient teams (North and South Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian and East Lothian). Outpatient CAMHS teams offer specialist mental health assessment and treatment to children and young people and consultation and collaboration to Primary Care and Children’s Services such as Education, School Nursing and Social Work. The team delivers a specialist Mental Health Service assessment and treatment pathway and a Neurodevelopmental assessment and treatment pathway.
South Edinburgh Outpatient Team
South Edinburgh CAMHS Outpatient Team are located at Lauriston Building in the heart of Edinburgh. This centre has excellent public transport links and is easily accessible. The building is well equipped with clinical space allocated for the team in addition to a variety of meeting rooms that are bookable as well as a joint staff room, coffee points and informal seating across areas. There are a number of small quiet rooms which are easily accessible to use when needed.
The current permanent consultant within the team, Dr Katay is due to retire this year. The team has been an excellent training placement for Core and Higher Trainees. The team also has two experienced specialty doctors working with generic and neurodevelopmental teams.
South CAMHS function as a truly multidisciplinary team, the other senior clinicians are Clinical Psychologist Lead Jenny Scott, Tommy Blue (Advanced Practitioner) and (OT Team Lead).
The team serves the South Edinburgh community which has a general population of 156,753 and 16% are aged 17 and under (39.705). Although a wealthy city, the South Edinburgh community does experience disadvantage. To support and address heath inequalities, there are strong links with Social Work, Education, local GPs and the 3rd sector.
North Edinburgh Outpatient Team
North Edinburgh CAMHS Outpatient Team are located at the purpose built Pennywell All Care Centre in the heart of the North Edinburgh community. This purpose-built health hub is easily accessible by bus, train or bike and there is free parking available on site.
The Pennywell All Care Centre provides a range of health and social care services including a GP surgery, Community Child Health, Paediatric Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Family Nurse Partnership, Speech and Language Therapy, Health Visiting and Community Midwifery.
As a CAMHS team embedded in a heath and wellbeing hub, there are opportunities to promote natural partnership working with other health teams. The building is well equipped with clinical space allocated for the team in addition to a variety of meeting rooms that are bookable as well as a joint staff room, coffee points and informal seating across areas. There are a number of small quiet rooms which are easily accessible to use when needed.
West Lothian Outpatient Team:
West Lothian CAMHS team is situated in St John’s hospital, Livingston to the West of Edinburgh in the Central Belt of Scotland, making it easily commutable from many areas of Scotland.
We are located across two sites: outpatients in the district general hospital and Willowgrove Day Programme. St John’s is a busy district general hospital with an A&E and a number of specialist regional services in mental health including perinatal, REDU (eating disorders in patient unit), psychiatry for the deaf as well as specialist other services such as plastic surgery.
West Lothian CAMHS team unlike other sectors in Lothian have their own tier 4 service comprising Willowgrove Day Programme for young people secondary school age (11 -17) and an assertive outreach CPN providing more intensive treatment for complex / high risk patients. The inpatient beds are regional at CAMHS Tipperlin in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. This blended model of care allows the Consultant in West Lothian to provide care in a seamless manner across tier 3 and tier 4. We also provide a liaison service to A&E, and other departments in the hospital such as Paediatrics and Medical Admissions Unit. This is also supported by our Unscheduled Care Team.
