Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) pre-registration supernumerary clinical scientist training intake 2022
NHS Education for Scotland, in partnership with NHS Boards, offers supernumerary training opportunities to high quality science graduates who are passionate about science, its role in modern healthcare, and are committed to NHS Scotland. All our senior scientific staff take a leading role to add capability in patient safety, complex investigations, clinical interpretation, development and problem solving at the technical-clinical interface, research and innovation. As part of our healthcare science team, you will join a fixed term training programme as an NHS Board employee, but your training will rotate through different centres around Scotland. Your training in Scotland will lead towards Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration http://www.hcpc-uk.org as a Clinical Scientist aligned with the framework for UK-wide Modernising Scientific Careers. Funding for postgraduate training and course fees will be provided.
Applications are invited from candidates with a First or 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree encompassing elements of cell and molecular biology, immunology and genetics for entry to the training scheme for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I). Candidates with a 2:2 are accepted but must also possess an MSc or other higher degree in a related discipline. H&I is a laboratory discipline which supports clinical organ, tissue and cell transplantation, autoimmune disease diagnostics and transfusion medicine. The successful candidate will undertake a recognised professional qualification in H&I, the British Society for H&I (BSHI) Diploma. Trainees will have a contract of employment for 3 years, starting in September 2022, with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, a division of National Services Scotland. Secondment will be considered for those currently working in NHS Boards. The training will be undertaken within the two H&I laboratories in Scotland, at the Gartnavel site, Glasgow and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh allowing trainees to build a portfolio for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency
